The Advisory Board on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (ABADA), Alaska Mental Health Board (AMHB) is recruiting for an
Executive Director position in Juneau.
The Alaska Mental Health Board (AMHB) and Advisory Board on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (ABADA) are the state planning councils for behavioral health. ABADA and AMHB consider every Alaskan to be their constituent - because every one of us, in every community, is affected by the issues of substance use/misuse and mental health.
The Boards, comprised of volunteer members appointed by the Governor, share the mission of providing education and advice about mental health and substance use/misuse and planning, coordinating, evaluating, and advocating for programs and services that promote healthy, independent, productive Alaskans. The Boards work together toward a shared vision of every Alaskan living a healthy and productive life.
Since 2010, the Statewide Suicide Prevention Council (SSPC) has been co-located with the Boards. The Alaska Legislature created the Council to develop and implement the state suicide prevention plan and advise the State about ways to reduce suicide, increase public awareness, and improve suicide prevention efforts statewide.
While AMHB and ABADA share staff and operate in close partnership, the SSPC operates separately. Efforts are coordinated through the shared executive director and the AMHB and ABADA members appointed to the Council.
AMHB/ABADA offers challenging and exciting work that has a positive impact on the lives of Alaskans with mental health and substance misuse concerns. This dynamic position offers an opportunity to gain valuable career experience related to planning in support of Alaska's behavioral health system and a chance to elevate the voices of individuals with lived experience.
The AMHB/ABADA office is located at 431 North Franklin St., Juneau, AK, in downtown Juneau. It is near the Alaska State Capitol Building and within walking distance of various restaurants, coffee shops, and gift shops. A designated parking pass is included with the hire.
