About the Program and Position:
Cayuga Centers is looking for an individual passionate about strengths-based, youth-and family-centered care within the Children and Family Treatment and Support Services (CFTSS) program. Under the supervision of the Director of Resiliency Programs, the Family Peer Advocate will work closely with the family members and/or caregivers of youth receiving services in the agency’s CFTSS and Care Management Programs. The Family Peer Advocate will assist families in accessing supports, connecting with providers, and addressing concrete and/or subjective barriers that prevent participation in services. This staff member will also work to assist families in increasing their skills in self-advocacy and empower families to make informed decisions. Connecting families to community connections and natural support networks is an integral job function within this role.

Complete the Families Together training and practice fidelity to interventions and models trained by that organization and Cayuga Centers
Engage families in Family Peer Support Services by partnering with families, identifying strengths, and building from strengths to support goal achievement
Act as a liaison between families and service providers within the CFTSS team as well as other providers
Attend meetings with families and their service providers to ensure their points of view are heard and reflected in treatment plans
Assist families in gathering, organizing, and preparing their thoughts and documentation
Address barriers that prevent full participation in services
Support families through transitional periods
Support families’ efforts in caring for their children’s mental and physical health
Assist families in developing effective routines and implementing these within their homes
Assist families in identifying and accessing natural and formal support networks
Coach and model effective communication skills
Coach and model healthy decision-making skills
Teach and support the use of self-advocacy skills
Assist program leadership and team members in developing and adapting policies and procedures to ensure that the family's voice and choice are considered and valued.
Participate in weekly supervision with the Assistant Director of Child and Family Treatment and Support Services/Braided
Respond in a positive and respectful manner to diversity among the agency’s service population
Responsible for maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of Protected Health Information of service recipients in any form (e.g., computer access, conversations, documentation) during and surviving the termination, expiration or cancellation of employment/association with Cayuga Centers
Responsible for complying with rules and regulations governing access to Protected Health Information under HIPPA. Access to Protected Health Information is limited to the extent required to perform responsibilities effectively and efficiently. No access will be permitted unnecessarily. These essential job functions dictate the level of access, use, and disclosure of confidential information
Perform other duties as requested by program supervisors and agency leadership
Schedule:
Looking for an applicant who is willing to work with the youth/families at a time that suits the youth and family needs on a flexible schedule. This is a full-time, 40-hour-a-week position.
High School Diploma/GED required
Bachelor’s degree in human services related field preferred
Ability to complete training through Families Together organization to become a New York State Credentialed Family Peer Advocate
Demonstrate 'lived experience' as a parent or primary caregiver who has navigated multiple child serving systems on behalf of their child(ren) with social, emotional, developmental, health, and/or behavioral healthcare needs
Prior work experience with families preferred
Ability to clearly communicate both in writing and verbally
Ability and willingness to engage and work with families in an 'in-home' context
Ability to carry our program goals created by youth and families
Ability to maintain and uphold professional boundaries
Ability to handle confidential material in a responsible manner
Ability to work effectively and patiently with others in difficult and/or stressful situations
Valid NYS Driver’s License required
