About the team (and the role):

NWG is growing! We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our growing team. In this role, you will be crucial in ensuring accurate and efficient billing and coding processes. This position requires precision, organization, and a deep understanding of medical terminology and coding standards.

Responsibilities:

Billing and Coding :

  • Accurately code medical diagnoses, procedures, and treatments for billing purposes.
  • Ensure compliance with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding standards.
  • Review patient charts to ensure proper coding and documentation.

Claims Management :

  • Submit claims to insurance providers and manage the reimbursement process.
  • Resolve denied claims and manage appeals when necessary.
  • Track and report on billing activities, identifying trends or issues.

Patient Billing Support :

  • Respond to patient inquiries about billing, providing a clear explanation of charges.
  • Coordinate with patients on billing issues and payment plans as needed.

Data Entry and Record Management :

  • Maintain and update patient records and billing information in our EHR system.
  • Ensure all data entries comply with privacy regulations (HIPAA).

Collaboration and Communication :

  • Work closely with the clinical team to clarify documentation for accurate coding.
  • Communicate effectively with insurance companies, patients, and team members.

Office Hours:

· Monday-Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Employment Status:

· Full-time

· Part-time (under certain circumstances)

Flexibility and Remote Work:

· The role requires a presence in the Omaha office

Travel Requirements:

· Travel to/from the Omaha office for team meetings, trainings, and work-related conferences

Negotiable, based on experience and qualifications

Key Skills and Experience:

Technical Expertise:

  • Proficiency in ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding.
  • Familiarity with EHR systems and medical billing software.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology, especially relevant to primary care and weight loss services.

Education and Qualifications:

Educational Background :

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent :
  • High school diploma or equivalent; an associate’s degree in healthcare administration, billing, or a related field is preferred.

Professional Experience :

  • Medical Office Experience :
  • Previous experience working in a medical office or similar healthcare setting is highly desirable.
  • Administrative Experience :
  • Experience with general administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, and correspondence management is beneficial.

Certifications(s) & Experience :

  • Previous experience in medical billing and coding, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) is a plus but not mandatory.
