Job Description

Bring your medical records experience to the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Houtzdale as a Medical Records Assistant! The work you accomplish in this position will help our team keep the medical records of the inmates organized and make the operations of the institution run smoothly. As a Medical Records Assistant, you will be responsible for the preparation, classification, and abstraction of medical reports at SCI Houtzdale. In this position, you will create medical reports and documents for individual inmates and file them in the respective inmate medical records. You can expect to compile all inmate medical records for transfer and assist in the medical department’s data entry. Additionally, you will archive records for inmates who have left the system and ensure records are provided to the State Records Center in an accurate and timely manner.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Salary:   In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Please Note: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,785.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of clerical experience in a medical records department of a hospital, or ambulatory acute medical care setting or a licensed nursing facility, which has included six months of experience under the general direction or oversight by a registered Medical Records Technician or Administrator; and graduation from high school;   or
  • Graduation from a medical secretarial or medical records program;   or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.  

Other Requirements:

  • S uccessful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
