Position Summary

The Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington (SPH-B) invites applications for an open-rank, non- tenure-track (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer or Clinical Assistant Professor/Clinical Associate Professor/Clinical Professor) faculty position in the Department of Applied Health Science. The SPH-B seeks individuals who will contribute toward academic excellence in teaching in support of our mission of preventing disease and promoting the health and well-being of individuals, families, and communities. This 10-month appointment would ideally start August 1, 2025. Continuing the momentum of hiring over 60 outstanding faculty over the last three years, the SPH -B is launching another wave of faculty recruitment. The Department of Applied Health Science unites a multidisciplinary faculty members with expertise in social and behavioral science applied to health; nutrition and dietetics; opioids, addictions, and substance use prevention; sexual and reproductive health; human development and family studies/youth development; safety/total worker health/injury prevention; maternal and child health; and global public health, all pursuing the common goal of preventing disease and promoting the health and well-being of individuals, families, and communities. A part of the flagship campus of Indiana University located in Bloomington, Indiana, the Department of Applied Health Science maintains strong connections to other departments in the SPH -B and other schools across Indiana University.

Basic Qualifications

Qualifications : A Master’s Degree in a relevant field is required, though a doctoral or terminal degree (such as PhD, ScD, DrPH, MD) may be substituted. The candidate must also be a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with a demonstrated track record of teaching excellence in nutrition and dietetics, experience working as an RDN, experience advising and mentoring students, and perspectives and experiences that reflect a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Candidates must have teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level.
  • Good interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and the ability to work cooperatively and congenially within a diverse faculty members and students are required.
  • The ideal candidate will have significant hands-on experience as a Registered Dietitian (RD) and/or in the broader field of nutrition, bringing practical, real-world insights from their professional practice. Experience supervising or facilitating student internships and/or student projects in dietetics, with supporting peer-reviewed publications is preferred.

This position is located on the campus of Indiana University Bloomington in Bloomington, Indiana, and successful candidates are expected to work on the Bloomington campus to allow full engagement with the department, school, campus, and community.

Responsibilities: This open-rank, non-tenure track (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer or Clinical Assistant Professor/Clinical Associate Professor/Clinical Professor) faculty member in the Department of Applied Health Science is expected to substantially contribute to the overall academic excellence of the department through teaching and service.

The selected candidate will serve on the faculty in the programmatic area of Nutrition and Dietetics. The teaching expectation will be six courses per year (three courses in the Fall term and three courses in the Spring term). Courses taught will be related to one’s interests, expertise, and needs of the program.
