Summary

The Ogilvie laboratory is currently seeking an outstanding Postdoctoral Associate - Specialist in bioinformatics. This individual will be responsible for computational studies aimed at discovering new mechanisms underlying medulloblastoma biology. The successful candidate will have opportunities to generate, analyze and mine data using a variety of approaches, including single-cell and spatial transcriptomic assays. The individual will be a recent PhD graduate with high levels of energy and curiosity, and who is interested in making fundamental discoveries that will ultimately improve our understanding of pediatric brain tumor progression.

Job Duties

• Designs and performs bioinformatics studies that directly answer biological questions related to pediatric brain tumor growth and metastasis.
• Generates new data using advanced genomic tools and analyze/mine other available resources.
• Collects and analyzes data and presents at local/national/international meetings.
• Prepares manuscripts for publication and publish results in peer-reviewed research journals.
• Applies for external fellowships.
• Mines, analyzes and interprets data
  • Candidate will have demonstrated proficiency in: Linux, R/Python programming, Single-Cell/Bulk RNA-seq Analysis, Spatial Transcriptomics, Analysis Bulk whole-exome sequencing data analysis, Analyses of alternative splicing, Machine learning/deep learning, Data visualization.
• Works extensively on manuscript/grant drafts, figures and cover letters for submission to journals.
• Represents the lab at national and international scientific meetings.
• Assists/trains others in basic bioinformatics analyses.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Computational Sciences, Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Statistics, or related disciplines. May also include Ph.D. in Biology or Biomedical Sciences in combination with an M.S. or extensive multidisciplinary experience in one of the above quantitative fields.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior first author publications are required.
• Must be self-motivated, well-organized and highly independent.
• Excellent communication, written and interpersonal skills are mandatory.
