Job Description

The Ghobrial lab is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to lead investigations and conduct laboratory-based research focusing on multiple myeloma and its precursor conditions. Based on the mission of the lab, the successful candidate will be responsible for identifying novel biomarkers for tumor burden, tumor biology, and immune state in both the bone marrow and peripheral blood aiming to improve assessment for prognostication and monitoring of therapy response in patients with MGUS and SMM. In pursuit of these goals, they will leverage next-generation sequencing and advanced laboratory methods, including sterile tissue culture, proteomics, spatial proteomics/transcriptomics, and single-cell genomic characterization. In addition, the development of novel immunologic techniques and the application of new technologies will be key components of the effort and investigating the function of immune cells as key regulators of the tumor microenvironment. Collaboration with pathologists for tissue imaging correlations and with computational biologists is expected. The work will largely involve human tissues and samples for in vitro studies and modeling, with some potential animal work.The successful candidate will be highly organized, a team player, and able to work flexible hours to accommodate experimental needs.   • Design, conduct, and troubleshoot hypothesis-testing experiments.? 
  • Design, conduct, and validate high-throughput, hypothesis-generating screens.? 
  • Mentoring of research technicians and undergraduate students.? 
  • Maintain detailed and understandable lab notebooks and documentation.? 
  • Interpret, discuss and present research findings with lab members and the principal investigator.? 
  • Use computational approaches to analyze complex data sets, including next generation sequencing data sets, and/or effectively collaborate with computational biologists.? 
  • Prepare figures and progress reports, write manuscripts and review articles, and present at scientific conferences.

  • Ph.D. in Biology or M.D. with at least 2-3 years of laboratory experience technically proficient in basic wet lab techniques, including primary and cell line culture, viability assessment, cell cycle analysis, cytotoxicity, proliferation, migration analysis, PCR, Western blotting, cloning, etc.

  • Strong background in cancer immunology, ideally with a focus on the hematopoietic system.
  • The candidate is highly organized, collaborative, and flexible with experimental scheduling and demonstrates excellent scientific, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought.?
