Job Description

Anchorage Cooperative Preschool is a play-based preschool program with a 50-year history of supporting students and families in Anchorage. We are seeking a nurturing, energetic, and patient Paraprofessional/Teacher Assistant to support our play-based learning environment. The ideal candidate will work closely with lead teachers to foster a joyful, engaging, and developmentally appropriate classroom where children learn through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences. 

Requirements: 

• High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework in Early Childhood Education (ECE) preferred. 
• Ability to kneel, bend, squat, lift up to 40 lbs, and actively engage with children at their level.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills with adults and children.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience working with young children in a group setting (preferred).
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
• A creative and collaborative spirit, and a passion for play-based, child-centered learning approaches.

Responsibilities include:

• Assist the lead teacher in implementing a play-based curriculum that supports children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
• Supervise children both indoors and outdoors to ensure a safe and stimulating environment.
• Support individual and group activities that promote creativity, problem-solving, and cooperation.
• Help prepare and organize materials and classroom spaces for daily activities.
• Foster positive relationships with children, families, and staff, reflecting respect and empathy at all times.
• Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development as required.
