Job Description

The Security Officer will be responsible for maintaining a secure environment within the office building by patrolling the premises, conducting water and fire watch, monitoring building systems, and limiting access to restricted areas. This role is critical to ensuring the safety of employees, visitors, and the property while also assisting with emergency response when needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patrolling:
  • Conduct regular foot patrols of the office building and surrounding areas to ensure the security and safety of the premises.
  • Monitor and assess potential security risks, report hazards, and respond to security concerns.
  • Fire & Water Watch:
  • Perform continuous fire and water watch duties, checking fire suppression systems, water tanks, boilers, and other critical infrastructure.
  • Identify potential fire hazards, water leaks, or malfunctions and immediately report to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure that fire exits and routes remain clear and accessible at all times.
  • System Monitoring:
  • Regularly check temperatures, sensors, and gauges for HVAC, electrical, and fire safety systems.
  • Report abnormal readings, malfunctions, or system failures to the maintenance team or building management for immediate attention.
  • Access Control:
  • Monitor and control access to restricted areas, ensuring only authorized personnel are allowed entry.
  • Verify identification and authorization of visitors, employees, and contractors.
  • Maintain records of visitors and employees entering and exiting the building.
  • Emergency Response:
  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies such as fire alarms, medical incidents, security breaches, or other urgent situations.
  • Assist in evacuations, crowd control, and other emergency procedures.
  • Coordinate with emergency response teams (fire, medical, police) as required.
  • Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate and detailed logs of daily activities, security issues, and any incidents during shifts.
  • Prepare incident reports and escalate security concerns or emergencies to the appropriate parties.
  • Customer Service:
  • Provide excellent customer service to employees, visitors, and vendors by addressing inquiries and assisting with building-related needs.
  • Remain professional, calm, and approachable, especially during high-stress or emergencies.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience:
  • Previous experience in security or facilities management is preferred, especially in office buildings or commercial environments.
  • Skills:
  • Ability to operate security systems, temperature sensors, fire alarms, and other building monitoring equipment.
  • Strong observational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in emergencies.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to walk, stand, and patrol for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment or perform manual tasks as required (e.g., checking fire extinguishers, adjusting thermostats).
  • Certifications:
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are preferred

Working Conditions:

  • This position may require shift work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Work may be performed indoors and outdoors, depending on patrol routes and building layout.
  • Occasional exposure to hazards or emergencies may occur.
