Job Description

This full-time, benefits-eligible, 12-month position reports to the Director of Athletics and includes non-traditional hours and summer programming.

Overview: The Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and operating a strength and conditioning program for all Ravenscroft athletic programs (7th—12th graders), with three goals of improving athletic performance, reducing athletic injuries, and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills.  The Strength and Conditioning Coach will collaborate with the Ravenscroft Sports Medicine program, the Athletics Department Leadership Team, Head Coaches, and the Director of Student-Athlete Well-being to ensure the development and wellness of Ravenscroft student-athletes.  The Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for providing programming and coaching that includes but is not limited to education on warm-up, resistance training, flexibility, and mobility, developmentally appropriate conditioning plans, guidance on proper nutrition, rest, recovery, and motivation to help athletes develop to the best of their ability. The Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for maintaining the strength and conditioning facility in collaboration with the Assistant Athletic Director for Technical Services and for establishing policies, plans, and procedures for the safe and professional operation of the facility. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Strength & Conditioning:

  • Design and implement developmentally individualized and appropriate strength training and conditioning plans for in-season, off-season, and pre-season Ravenscroft athletic programs in a manner that reflects research-driven practices and NCISAA and NFHS performance standards, including record keeping and documentation of testing and program data.
  • Facilitate a collaborative relationship among coaches, sports medicine staff, physical education department faculty, and the athletic department.
  • Develop systems for tracking athlete attendance and progress and systems for sharing data with the coaches.
  • Work in cooperation with the sports medicine staff to support injured student-athletes' rehabilitation and return-to-play protocols.
  • In collaboration with the athletics department and sports medicine staff, conduct and review a departmental risk management and emergency action plan annually.
  • Complete an annual budgetary proposal for the program that includes routine maintenance, purchase of new equipment, and staffing needs.
  • Reinforce expectations for student-athlete conduct that mirror the school's expectations for curricular and co-curricular activities, as stated in the school's Student and Family Handbook and Student-Athlete and Family Handbook.
  • Consult with coaches and athletics department personnel on research-based best practices for exercise techniques, training of student-athletes and personnel, record management, and oversight of all programs and emergency procedures.
  • Educate student-athletes on proper lifting mechanics and techniques.
  • Educate student-athletes on nutrition, wellness, and recovery.
  • Monitor and assess student-athlete wellness and fatigue; collaborate with the Director of Student-Athlete Well-being to support student-athletes’ emotional and social health.
  • Identify and evaluate critical performance indicators concerning respective sports
  • Mentor student-athletes and integrate Lead From Here within the program.
  • Teach two sections of Upper School Fitness Education (by gender)
  • Facilitate Upper School and Middle School PE fitness units in collaboration with the core teacher, who will assist in the classroom and handle all grading and Canvas responsibilities.

Professional Associations: 

  • Maintain Memberships in the  National High School Strength Coaches Association and the  National Strength and Conditioning Association

Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to:

  • Supervise and coordinate the strength and conditioning clubs in MS & US Club periods.
  • Game day administration as assigned by the athletic department.
  • Be present at NCISAA state playoff games as requested by the athletic department.
  • Assist Faculty and Staff with a workout program and implementation.

Education and Certifications required for consideration: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Biomechanics, Kinesiology, or Human Performance; 
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience (5 years minimum) as a strength and conditioning coach at the high school, college, or professional level.

Professional Certifications: (must hold at least one):

  • CSCS from National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA)
  • SCC from Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA)
  • USA Weightlifting (USAW) level 1 or Sports Performance Coach
  • Current American Red Cross CPR and First Aid Instructor Certification
