Position Overview

The Illinois School for the Deaf is seeking to hire a Teacher Aide to provide educational support to deaf and hard of hearing students. This position supports individual students in the classroom setting under the direction of the classroom educator, assists with the development of materials for Educators, accompanies Educators on field trips/outings and assists with supervision of students during school-related activities, and updates and maintains student educational records.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as Teacher Aide and provides educational support to deaf and hard of hearing students.

  • Updates and maintains student records, report cards, Individualized Educational Plan (IEP)'s, Eligibility Reviews, and Skyward discipline reports.

  • Assists with development of materials for Educators.

  • Accompanies Educators on field trips/outings and assists with supervision of students at school-related assemblies.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires possession of a current, valid ISBE Educator License with Stipulations endorsed for Paraprofessional Educator.

  • Requires the ability to communicate sign language at the Intermediate level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of professional experience working with diverse needs presented by deaf/hard of hearing students and deaf/hard of hearing students with identified secondary disabilities.

  • Two (2) years of professional experience maintaining patience and tolerance with a wide range of behavior.

  • Completion of at least two (2) years of higher education or an associate degree or higher.

  • Two (2) years of professional experience utilizing classroom methods and procedures to support, assist and direct students to accomplish educational objectives.

  • Two (2) years of professional experience preparing and maintaining accurate student records.

  • Two (2) years of professional experience maintaining effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.

  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
