Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) is proud to be an innovative leader in community health, providing equitable and culturally responsive care for all populations across Boston’s metro-north region. CHA's award-winning language access program provides our diverse patient population with crucial resources to communicate effectively with our care providers, allowing patients and their families to fully understand their medical conditions, treatment options, and the care being provided. By breaking down language barriers and offering expertise in over 150 languages, our Medical Interpreter and Translation staff serve as a vital communications bridge between patients, families, and medical staff, ensuring our health care providers are able to deliver culturally informed and compassionate care to every patient, every time.

We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Hospital Interpreter Supervisor to oversee the safe, efficient, and high-quality provision of interpreter services at both the CHA Cambridge and CHA Somerville Hospital campuses. This position plays a critical role in ensuring effective communication and language access for patients with limited English proficiency, enhancing the overall patient experience while maintaining high standards in clinical care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpreter Services Oversight: Manage the provision of competent, timely interpreter services at CHA Cambridge and Somerville Hospitals. Collaborate with the Scheduler and Off Hours Supervisor to ensure optimal staffing of interpreters throughout the day.

• Issue Management: Triage staff requests and resolve client issues, balancing patient flow, clinical needs, and interpreter availability. Troubleshoot problems with client departments and Central Dispatching to minimize delays and enhance service delivery.

Competency Assessments: Conduct competency assessments (shadowing) for hospital-based interpreters in languages you are qualified to assess. Assist with assessments for interpreters at other CHA sites as needed.

Performance Evaluations: Complete annual Performance Evaluations for hospital-based interpreters at CHA Cambridge and Somerville campuses. Provide feedback and guidance to improve service delivery.

Recruitment & Training: Participate in recruitment efforts, including phone screening interviews, formal interviews, and reference checks. Coordinate orientation for new interpreters and support ongoing training initiatives.

Telecommunication Equipment Management: Oversee the deployment and maintenance of telephonic and video conference interpreting equipment. Assist the unit managers in managing inventory of iPads and replacement parts.

Data Analysis & Reporting: Assist in analyzing interpreter requests, call volume, and call treatment trends. Support the Sr. Director in reviewing vendor invoices and identifying areas for service improvement.

Collaboration & Leadership: Represent the department in campus-based huddles and interdisciplinary meetings. Promote a patient-centered approach in all interactions, ensuring that patient and customer needs come first.

Quality Improvement: Actively participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives, and support performance improvement efforts across the organization

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred. High school diploma or GED required.

• Minimum of 3 years experience in interpreting operations/dispatching required.

• Medical Interpreter experience required.

• Public speaking and facilitation skills preferred.
